Method 1: Update Kodi on Firestick with “Downloader” App
STEP 1. COMPOSE YOUR FIRESTICK FOR THE UPDATE
If you have installed third-party addons before on your Firestick, you’ve probably already done these steps. You can jump over this step if you’ve already done it before. There are four changes you have to make in the ‘Settings’ of your Firestick:
1. Enable ADB debugging, 2. Allow apps to install from Unknown Sources, 3. Turn OFF Device Usage Data, and 4. Turn OFF Collect App Usage Data. Follow this step-by-step tutorial, and you will be good to go.
Step 1. Navigate to Settings on your Firestick, select “My Fire TV,” and enable “Developer Options” by clicking on it.
Step 2. Next, you’ll require to enable “ADB debugging” (optional but recommended) and allow Apps to install from “Unknown Sources” (this is mandatory.)
Step 3. Turn OFF “Device Usage Data” and “Collect App Usage Data” from Settings>Preferences>Privacy Settings.
After successfully doing that, your Firestick will be ready for the installation of Kodi.
STEP 2. GETTING THE DOWNLOADER APP.
This method is the easiest and fastest method so far; in other words, the best method for updating Kodi on your Firestick. You just have to follow these steps in the correct order, and it will be done in less than 2 minutes. Downloader is available free of cost on the Amazon App Store. It makes the installation process smooth and convenient.
Select the “Search” option at the top left corner of the Firestick Home screen. Type “Downloader” and hit search.
After successfully downloading and installing the “Downloader” app, there is only one step remaining before the installation is completed.
STEP 3. UPDATE KODI ON FIRESTICK
In this step, I’ll tell you how to download and update your Kodi to 18.7 Leia on your Amazon Firestick, the latest stable released version.
Step 1. Launch the Downloader app we just installed and click on the URL box (http://).
Step 2. A popup keypad will now appear on the screen. Type https://howtofirestick.com/kodi.apk and click ‘GO.’

Method 2: Update Kodi on Firestick using ES File Explorer
Downloader is a reliable source, and you should not face any difficulty updating Kodi with it. However, if you have a premium subscription of the popular file manager ES File Explorer, you might want to reconsider your options.
The free version of ES File Explorer does not support free sideloading of third-party apps any longer. You will require a premium subscription that costs $9.99 per month, whereas the Downloader is entirely free. If you have already installed Kodi using this method, you may skip this one.
- Power-On your Firestick.
- Go to Settings>My Fire TV.
- Click on Developer Options.
- Allow Apps to install from Unknown sources by clicking on “Apps from Unknown Sources.”
- Go to the Home page of your Firestick and click on the “Search” icon at the top left corner of your screen.
- Type “ES File Explorer” in the search bar and click on the app icon when the results appear.
- Follow the instructions showed on the screen to install “ES File Explorer” on your Firestick.
- Launch the app after it is successfully installed.
- Go to the section on the right side where you will see several icons. Click on the “Downloader” icon.
- Click on +New at the bottom.
- A popup will now appear. Enter https://howtofirestick.com/kodi.apk in the Path section and name it anything you may like.
- Click on “Download Now.”
- Let the app download.
- Click on “Open File” after it is downloaded.
- Then Click on “Install” when prompted.
- Click on “Install” one more time.
- That’s pretty much it. You have successfully updated Kodi on Firestick using ES File Explorer.
Method 3. Update Kodi on Firestick using AppStarter
If you have tried both of the above-listed methods and still can’t update Kodi on Firestick, give this one a go. AppStarter allows devices the installation of third-party apps hence, makes the installation process simpler and smoother.
Once again, you will need to allow the Apps to install from Unknown Sources, which you must have done by now if you have tried the instructions on the previous methods carefully.
